About Kundalini

The classes I teach are directly from the art and science of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Yogi Bhajan, PHD, taught Kundalini Yoga from 1969-2004 in every part of the globe. This practice is universal and nondenominational. No matter what religious path you follow, or don’t follow, Kundalini Yoga helps you experience your personal beliefs and understanding in a deeper, more meaningful manner. It appeals to people regardless of race, gender, country, profession, age, fitness level, or religion. Kundalini Yoga is, was, and always will be a yoga for people who live and work in the world.

Kundalini Yoga is a system of yogic exercise and meditation for health, happiness, and spiritual awareness. A complete science that combines postures (asanas), movement, sound current (mantra), breath (pranayam), and meditation that allow you to experience your highest consciousness.

Kundalini Yoga is commonly referred to as the yoga of awareness. Practicing trains your mind to be strong and flexible in the face of stress and change, and opens your mind to make contact with your innate inner wisdom. Physically, Kundalini Yoga helps build and maintain a healthy body, while increasing vitality, balancing the glandular system and strengthening the nervous system. Kundalini Yoga gives you the vitality, peace of mind, and health that is your birthright. It makes you radiant, peaceful, confident, and strong so that you can meet life’s challenges victoriously and with grace.

All Kundalini Yoga classes begin with tuning in, using the Adi Mantra, “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo”, meaning, “I bow to the subtle divine wisdom, the divine teacher within each of us”. Guided by the teacher, students chant the Adi Mantra three times.

Following the Adi Mantra, the class may begin with breathing (pranayam) and/or warmup exercises, which are followed by a Kundalini kriya (series of exercises) that range from subtle and simple movements to moderately physical and fairly strenuous exercises. Students work at their own comfort level and physical capacity through the kriya, which leads into a deep relaxation set to the powerful healing sounds of the symphonic gong or music. Class culminates with a meditation, a closing song, and a collective Sat Nam chant, which means, “Truth is my Identity”. Sat means truth, and Nam means name. Again, all physical fitness levels are welcome and will benefit.
